Meet Cameron Hobbs!

Looking back at your time as a student at Otterbein, what is something you learned that you still practice in life as a working actor!
To be a professional! And not carry a 2 liter of Mountain Dew into 9am Tap Class. Guys! I used to walk into class in sweatpants and with a Mountain Dew. And I remember one day, Sue Saurer walked over to me and yelled, “Don’t ever bring soda into my class again or I’ll flunk you. And no sweatpants.” I remember growing a lot that day and always try to be the best version of myself in and out of the workspace.

“Otters in the Apple” is such a wonderful thing! Did you come up with the idea? And if so, how?
Honestly? I think I saw University of Michigan had an alumni Instagram and I thought, “Hey! We need one of those!”Otterbein is such a small school already, but when I was a student, there were only a couple big names I knew. I felt like a lot of Otter’s accomplishments were overlooked. But with social media, it’s so easy to get information out there now! I wanted a way to connect and celebrate ALL Otterbein alum.
-
What is your favorite memory of your time at Otterbein?
Oh wow. There really are so many! Can I say my whole junior year? Haha!
I think the whole Drowsy Chaperone experience is one I’ll never forget. Such an amazing show and cast.
Also, Otterbein during the fall is one the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. I miss it.

Fun Facts:

What is you favorite role you’ve ever played and why?
It’s not a specific role, but Something Rotten was my first National Tour, and so it holds a special place in my heart. I remember seeing the very first preview of the show at the St. James with my boyfriend, Stephen. At the end of the number “Musical!” there was a 2 minute standing ovation. It’s one of my favorite theatrical experiences to this day. I remember turning to Stephen and saying, “I’m going to be in this show!”
-
You’ve been on multiple national tours traveling all of the country, how have you been spending your time now that theater is “on pause”?
Honestly, sitting on the couch with my boyfriend and my freaking cute puppy, Auggie.
It’s hard to stay positive during this time with so much up in the air. But we will never have this time again. (I hope)
Time to sit and reflect and think and create or NOT create. To appreciate and rest our bodies and minds. So that is what I’m trying to do: rest my mind and body.

What’s your favorite fall activity?
As basic as it sounds, I love a pumpkin patch. Tomorrow, I’m going with my friends, Stephen, and Auggie and I can’t wait. Also, walks in the park! Every Sunday I meet in Fort Tryon Park with fellow Otterbeiners Stanzi Davis and Lili Froehlich. We sit and drink coffee and chat about life and Otterbein and the election and our lives and it has been the best thing for my soul!
