Meet Jeremy Sickles!
What advice would you give to young actors about to enter the professional world post graduation?
Given that 2020 is the most uncertain and turbulent time in the entertainment industry, remember that this is a marathon and not a sprint. There are a lot of question marks in the entertainment industry and society. Take care of yourself today so you can be ready for what comes tomorrow.
You graduated with your BFA in music theater and now work on the other side as an agent! Can you tell our readers a little about how your passion molded in that!
When I was in school, I realized pretty early on that performing was not my passion. When I left school, I knew that I wanted to work in theatre and help people. I worked as an assistant for different artists, I worked for a theatre venue, and I was an intern and assistant in different casting offices. I was lucky to land in an agency role where I could focus on working with actors to grow their careers.
With that, you’ve been back to Hartt to help coach the current seniors on their showcase. How did that feel being back and GIVING back in such a high stress time for the seniors.
Not to sound corny, but teaching at Hartt is one of my greatest joys. College is the last real time that you can get true, authentic feedback and focus on your individual work. My role is to take that work over the past 4 years and introduce marketability and strategy. While it is a high stress time, I believe there is a lot of power in knowledge and specifics regarding showcase. My goal is give that knowledge and power to the seniors heading into their showcase.
Fun Facts:
What was your favorite themed party at Hartt?
The Great Gatsby Party! It was two blocks from my house and I dressed up 1920's style.
Who was your favorite teacher?
To this day, my favorite teacher and colleague is Tracey Moore. She is outstanding as a professor and a friend.
