Meet Katie Davis of Spruce Design
How did Spruce start ?
When I was a full-time Nanny, I remodeled and designed a basement for the family I worked for. I transformed their cold, empty, dungeon basement into a playroom and art studio for their kids, and had a blast doing it! After some of their friends saw what I'd done - they started hiring me to help with their homes as well! I started organizing for families within my Nanny circle as well, and from there is just caught like wildfire! More and more people wanted me to either organize or refresh or design their space and I was forced to just jump in head first!
Where do find your inspiration?
It's funny, now that my full time job is shopping for furniture and decor.... I feel like I get inspo every single day from constantly shopping for multiple projects at the same time. West Elm, Wayfair, Pottery Barn, CB2, Target... you NAME it, I probably have their inventory memorized at this point. And of course, Instagram and Pinterest too!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to spruce up their space, but doesn’t know where to begin?
I would tell them to start with decluttering. Get rid of items that don't have a home, or are crowding their space. If there are decor items that don't serve a purpose or make a statement - get rid of them. A lot of people come to me because they want their space to have a certain "vibe" or look, but their decor is just leftovers from all the places they've lived before. Don't be afraid to purge, start fresh, or just give your furniture room to breathe!
Fun Facts:
What is you favorite role you’ve ever played and why?
I think my favorite role I've played is Katherine Plumber in Newsies - I loved her spirit, I LOVE that show, and what's more fun than singing your face off while boys leap and flip around you??
What show are you dying to see when Broadway comes back!?
I was so excited to see one of my friends make her Broadway debut in Mrs. Doubtfire - and I still haven't seen Hadestown! My heart is broken for the entire industry and I hope we can bounce back from this devastating collapse :(
