I got the privilege of chatting with certified makeup artist Tina Scariano! Her makeup looks and  answers to my interview questions go hand in hand. Both are natural, well thought out and lovely. In addition of being a makeup artist, Tina is a performer and is the Managing Director of Out of the Box Theatrics. Enjoy her tips and tricks below!

How did you first get into the art of makeup?

My mom was a makeup artist for Estée Lauder when I was growing up so I’ve always been around the beauty industry and have had a passion for makeup.  Becoming an actor also allowed me to expand my makeup collection and get more creative with my looks!

Is there someone in the makeup industry that you feel particularly inspired by? 

 I think Bobbi Brown is hands down the most timeless, classic and talented makeup artist in the industry.  She puts a huge emphasis on enhancing natural beauty and her techniques are simple and effective.

What would you tell someone who wants to be confident in doing their makeup but has no idea where to begin?  

I would emphasize there are NO rules! Makeup should be fun and a way to express yourself and feel good so keep a VERY open mind. It can be overwhelming with all of the content and products available.  However, if there is someone you know or follow whose aesthetic you like - find out what they are using.  Buy 1 one product they use.  Experiment with it.  See if it makes you feel good!  Then once you feel like you have it down add to your collection. Focus on one product/technique at a time.

What is your favorite thing in your makeup bag?

 Oh that’s a tough one! But lately it’s been my NARS pure radiant tinted moisturizer.  It’s the ultimate hot/humid summer skin perfecter and has an SPF of 30.  Stays on my face all day long running around NYC to different gigs!

What is your favorite makeup look? 

Simple and natural! I love my skin to look like skin - nothing cakey or heavy. A favorite trick of mine is to use my bronzer as eyeshadow! It ties everything together and is always the perfect warmth to add to the eyes.

What is your Starbucks order?

Grande (Pumpkin Spice) Cold Brew! 

Who is your hero?

My mom.  She is a rockstar and a half.
